From Father Nev

5-4-20 – Palm Sunday

Hi everyone,

From the beginning of Lent and in the month where COVID-19 has changed the world we arrive at the start of Holy Week. We recall Jesus entering the city where he is lauded as King, Son of David. Many at the time believed the Messiah would save them Roman occupation. There were those too who wanted to crucify Jesus as his claims of being the Son of God were blasphemous. We too are living in uncertain times. Business as usual does not help our situation. We are living in a moment of time of incredible change, change that has been imposed. People are having to work from home, families and friends are forced to spend more time together and maintain social distancing. What a complete irony!! People are losing jobs, worrying about rent, studies and mortgages. People are anxious about remaining productive, meeting deadlines and accomplishing goals Equally people have more time. There is time to sit still and be rather than be caught in that trap of needing to be busy. We have time to spend in prayer and reflect on. There is an opportunity to ask ourselves what truly satisfies me? What is important to me? Were the things I was pursuing pre Corona helping me to grow and making me happy? Am I at peace in my Spirit with where my life is or am I realising that I’ve been on a treadmill. God is using COVID-19 to put the brakes on and encourage us to accept the change. He’s gracing us with the chance of stopping and resetting our priorities. He’s gently asking how would YOU like to respond. Deep in each of us where God resides we know what God is calling us to do. God wants all of us to be happy and he is opening that door to make some intentional and positive changes to our lives. What routines bring me life? Which ones bring me death and pain? This weekend lookout for a video reflection and I’ll be attempting to live stream Mass at 8:30am Sunday. We still don’t know who’s is comping to replace me yet. By Dr. Peter VardyTHE REFORMATION TODAY: AN ECUMENICAL PERSPECTIVE

2017 marks the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. Many historians consider the Reformation one of those epoch changing events in the history of the Western world. But what does it mean for people in Australia 500 years later? Was the Reformation just a series of pointless disputes which have little relevance to the church today? Or is the church today the living legacy of the Reformation, and if so, what does this mean for us? Join us as we ask these questions together.
